When you learn with Dave Robson's, you'll have at least an hour's lesson with your instructor immediately before your test. This gives you time to warm up and feel comfortable in the car. It'll also help to calm any last minute nerves. Your instructor will make sure you arrive in good time at the test centre. Remember, you'll need to bring along your test appointment letter, provisional driving licence and some other form of photographic ID. Check your appointment letter for details of the correct forms of ID.
First of all, the examiner will ask you to sign a form and show your proof of identity. Then they'll ask you to identify the car you'll be driving and ask you to read another car's number plate from the required minimum distance.
Then you'll move over to the car you'll be driving to answer two vehicle safety questions - one 'show me' and one 'tell me'. You'll need to answer both correctly, or one driving fault will be recorded before you've started driving (full list at the bottom of the page to download).
During the Practical Test, the examiner will be looking for evidence that you can drive competently and safely. This means being fully aware of what's happening around you, showing that you can respond to situations sensibly and make sound judgements.
Your examiner will give you instructions on which direction to go, where to turn and when and where to stop. Apart from general driving, they'll ask you to carry out two exercises. These will be reversing around a corner, turning in the road or reverse parking. You could also be asked to do an emergency stop.
Your examiner wants you to do well and will try to put you at your ease. They won't say very much while you're driving, in case it puts you off. You should simply drive in the way that your instructor has taught you. If you make a mistake, don't worry, just put it behind you and concentrate on what's happening ahead. You won't fail for one minor mistake.
Examiners don't have a quota for test passes or fails. If you show that you have reached the required standard, you will pass your test. It takes 15 driving faults or one serious or dangerous fault to fail the test. |
